Land Acknowledgement & Our Commitment

Kindling Psychology is located on Treaty 6 Territory, the traditional lands of the Nehiyaw, Dene, Nakota Sioux, Saulteaux, and Niitsitapi Nations. This place is also part of the Métis Homeland, the Fort Edmonton Métis District in the North Saskatchewan River Territory of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

At Kindling, we recognize that we are all Treaty people. As beneficiaries of the Treaties, we all share a responsibility to uphold their spirit and intent and to actively support reconciliation.

My family immigrated from Italy to Canada in the 1950s. Like many newcomers, they did not understand the history and ongoing impacts of colonization or how settling on these lands contributed to the displacement, forced removal, and genocide of Indigenous Peoples. While my family may not have understood those realities then, I understand them now. I recognize that reconciliation requires more than acknowledgement, it requires ongoing learning, accountability, and action.

This commitment is reflected in both my clinical practice and my business.

In my practice, I strive to:

  • Participate in annual education on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis histories and cultures.

  • Attend training on approaches to decolonizing mental health care.

  • Provide services through the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program and

  • Reduce financial barriers for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis clients

  • Provide referrals and information to indigenous specific programs and services

  • Seek consultation and supervision to identify and address my own biases and blind spots, ensuring I continue to provide culturally humble and responsive care.

  • Supporting Indigenous-owned businesses by purchasing products and services from Indigenous suppliers whenever possible.

Reconciliation is an ongoing practice rather than a destination. I recognize that this commitment will continue to evolve as I learn, listen, and remain accountable to the communities whose lands I live and work on.
